exciting changes in the works!
happy monday, lovelies! hope you all had an amazing weekend … mine was pretty damn good, if i do say so myself.
as i’ve mentioned a few times before, motivation mondays is getting revamped, so these posts are on hold until 2016, but i wanted to use today’s post to let you guys know that i’m currently working on making some other changes to the way i do things over here at bananas + bellinis, too!
as you’ve probably noticed, i’ve been posting pretty sporadically over the past few months. between moving from new york to l.a., living on a couch and out of a suitcase for a while, finding an apartment, buying a car, starting a new job, meeting new friends, and exploring my new city … it’s been hard for me to find time to dedicate to creating content. and it bums me out!
but sometimes, you have to go with the flow and live in the moment, which is definitely what i’ve been doing. i even made a rule for myself that i’m not allowed to say “no” to anything [unless there is a really good reason, like i already have said “yes!” to something else or it’s dangerous/illegal/against my morals] for the foreseable future. this will either be the best or worst decision of my life … but it’s to ensure that i’m stepping outside of my comfort zone, putting myself out there, and not becoming too much of a homebody as i build my life on the west coast.
and … not gonna lie … life is pretty good right now.
but, with time away from blogging, i’ve had some time to brainstorm some ways to switch it up and keep things fun and exiting over here, and i have to say, i’ve got a few things up my sleeve that i’m anxious to get started with!
so, what does this all mean? let me give you the rundown.
motivation mondays makeover: the details for this change are still up in the air, but i do know that i want to continue incorporating positive quotes each week, and i’m thinking about doing weekend recaps, and highlighting 3-5 things i’m digging at the current moment … books, websites, products, videos, you name it! but i’m not 100% sure yet … so stay tuned!
**all new** thirsty thursdays: i’ve only posted one “clean” cocktail recipe before, but this is something i have so much fun doing that i want to make it a regular thing. and what better day of the week than good old thirsty thursday?
more recipes: in 2016, i’m committing to doing more recipe testing so that i can post more recipes for you guys. i love cooking and baking, and need to be doing more of it … and i also want to work on my food photography skills!
restaurant reviews: i honestly can’t even believe how long it’s taken me to realize that this is something i need to be doing. for anyone who follows me on instagram, it comes as no surprise that i consider myself to be a bit of a foodie … i love a good excuse to do some #eatingfortheinsta and i think some official reviewing is long overdue. [and just to be clear, these reviews will include all types of restaurants … not only “healthy” ones … balance, remember?]
so, that’s that! who knows what other ideas i’ll come up with along the way, but this is a start. i’m going to be posting regularly for the rest of the month … check back thursday for my healthy, happy holiday gift guide, and on friday for more newness that’s still t.b.d.!

motivations mondays: under construction!
so, last week marked the 52nd installment of motivation mondays … an entire year worth of inspiring quotes … hard to believe it! i love these posts … they’re so fun to write and such a great way for me to start off the week [we all know how much the “sunday scaries” or a “case of the mondays” can impact our mindset] but i’ve kinda been feeling like they needed a little revamping …
with that being said, i’m still in the brainstorming stage of making this a reality. i know i don’t want to completely do away with the positive quotes, but i think motivation mondays could use a little more … weekend recaps? more links i love that lead to content directly related to the week’s quote? images that offer an escape? interviews with inspirational people? i’m just not sure yet!

motivation mondays: week 52
good morning, ya’ll! hope you had a fun weekend … i had friends from new york in town last week and one of them stayed through the weekend, so the past few days have been full of eating, drinking, and playing tour guide!
we hiked temescal canyon trail saturday morning … couldn’t have asked for better weather or a prettier view! i love how l.a. gives you so many options for things to do outside … all year round!
week 52 of motivation mondays … a whole year worth of inspiration, good vibes and straight up motivation. i can’t believe it! in the coming weeks, i’ll be re-vamping the appearance and structure of the motivation mondays posts … just because change is sometimes necessary and i think after a year, it might be time to re-evaluate, but …
today, i just want to leave you with a simple message about love and happiness. with everything going on in the world, it can be easy to lose sight of what’s most important in life … to be angry and feel hopeless. in tough times, we need to remember that love is what conquers everything in the world that hurts us.
you have the power to spread happiness and sometimes the smallest act of kindness can go farther than you can imagine. don’t overlook any chance you have to make someone happy, and never underestimate your ability to help change the world, one small step at a time.
i’m not going to do any links this week, just because i think it’s important to focus on what’s most important to the world right now. i’m sending all of my love to anyone who has been impacted by the awful events of the last few days, and trying to remain as hopeful as possible. never let the actions of some discolor your views of humanity as a whole. there are more good people in the world than bad, and there is more love than hate.
motivation mondays: week 51
i’m so sorry for how sporadic my posting has been as of late. i’m working a job in l.a. that i love, but it’s much more time consuming than my last gig in new york was, which means less [re: no] free time for developing content during the day like i used to. it’s an adjustment, and i’m still committed to bananas + bellinis … health and wellness will always be my passion and writing, my creative outlet, so i’m not going anywhere anytime soon … it just might take me a few months to get into a constant swing of things like i was before … so, please, don’t give up on me!
this weekend, i treated myself to some much needed r + r after … what you could call a “wild” halloween weekend. saturday, i hiked griffith park up to the griffith observatory with two of my sorority sisters, which was awesome. it was so good to get out in nature and i absolutely love how accessible a good hike is to l.a. residents [like myself now!!]. also, check out that view of downtown!
after the hike, we ate some real mexican food at a taco stand in hollywood, cactus taqueria. i had the vegetarian burrito “wet” [smothered in red chili sauce and cheese] and the freshest, creamiest guac of all time. definitely an LA “must eat”.
not gonna lie, it took me a while to find a quote i really loved for this week’s motivation mondays. the last few weeks of my life have been a little stressful and last week, after a rough weekend, i was in funk at work, my stress levels were elevated and overall i didn’t feel like myself. i was questioning just about every move i have made in the past few months, wondering if i was really in the right place. i came across this quote, which i had saved to my camera roll months and months ago, and it felt like just the perfect reminder i was in need of:
sometimes, life feels like it comes to a screeching halt. it can feel like we aren’t going anywhere, like things around us are moving forward, but we just aren’t. one second you can feel great about everything and the next, not so much. that’s the ups and downs of life, right?
we know that life isn’t always easy, and when it gets tough … you have a bad day … a rough week … or a hard couple of months … the most important thing to remember is that it’s not always about how fast you’re moving forward, but where you’re headed. don’t be so hard on yourself. don’t put so much pressure on yourself to be perfect all of the time … it’s simply not possible.
as long as you’re working hard to improve yourself … your life … your situation … and you’re growing as a person and moving towards a destination, or a goal, that makes you excited, happy, and feel alive … you’re doing better than many, many other people out there.

motivation mondays: week 50
good morning! i’m finally back to feeling like myself, which means getting back to my regular schedule … as always, thanks for bearing with me … sometimes [always] you just have to put yourself and your health first, especially during cold and flu season, and get the extra rest that you need. i loaded up on all of my natural remedies, as per usual, which always helps get me on the right path quickly. you can read about them here, and if you follow me on instagram, you might have already seen the newest addition to my routine when i’m sick, temple turmeric.
also, i spent all day saturday doing the mandatory fall acivities we all know and love, and i just need everyone to know that in l.a. there are TACOS at the pumpkin patch.
my friends and i opted for non-traditional pumpkin decorating this year … mint green with rose gold accents and a little nod to beyoncé? sounds about right.
for motivation mondays, i just wanted to share this little bit of wisdom from the one and only joan rivers today … and i don’t really think it needs much explanation:
i love this because it’s so. effing. true. you can’t go through life without struggle. it just doesn’t work that way. no matter how good your life is, there will always be hard times. but just as there is always going to be hard times, there is always going to be good times. the hard times should only make the good times that much better. r.i.p. joan, and thanks for all of your wisdom. one of the most real women ever … i mean … not counting the plastic surgery.

motivation mondays: a day late
it’s certainly not the first time i’ve posted a “motivation mondays” post on a tuesday [club goin’ up?], and it probably won’t be the last. i’ve actually been rethinking this whole motivation mondays thing, and they will be getting a little bit of a makeover here soon … so be on the lookout for that!
anyways, the reason i wasn’t able to get this post together in time for yesterday is pretty good: my weekend was jam packed with fun, fun, fun that involved a lot of go, go, go and by the time sunday evening rolled around [when i typically write these posts] i. was. dead.
reason #1: i got way too drunk on friday night with my new coworkers, stayed out way too late and loved. every. minute of it. it’s all about #balance.
reason #2: i was lucky enough to attend the u.s.a. vs. mexico soccer game at the rose bowl on saturday. it was a close game, and team u.s.a. almost pulled through, but in the end, mexico came out on top. it still was a great time with a friend i hadn’t seen in months who was visiting from the east coast!
reason #3: i went to disneyland on sunday. all day. in the 100° heat. and had the most fun ever. felt like a kid again, which is never, ever a bad thing.
so motivation tuesday … whatever, it’s fine.
i love this because it’s so true. we’re always waiting around for other people to do something for us … to make us happy, to give us validation, to keep life new and fun and exciting … but guess what? relying on other people doesn’t always work out so well. actually, it can often backfire and leave us feeling let down, disappointed, sad, angry … you get the idea. so, every once in a while [or all of the time if you’re really feeling dangerous] blow your own mind.
try to impress yourself. do something nice for yourself … buy yourself flowers or the necklace you’ve been eying for months … go on a solo road trip one weekend … take yourself out to dinner … whatever it is you’re waiting for from someone else, just give it to yourself. doing something nice for yourself is often more satisfying than getting it from someone else in the first place.

motivation mondays: week 48
good morning, and happy monday! [i really hate this phrase, but stay tuned, it will make sense why i’m using it in a minute … ] i hope you had a restful weekend and that the week ahead of you is lookin’ just as good.
today’s motivation mondays quote is brought to us by one of my people in the public eye these days … i love everything she does and literally would do just about anything to be friends with her … so, uh … mindy, if you’re reading this … wanna do brunch this weekend? lmk … i’m buying!
this gets back to the whole “mindset is half the battle” thing i know i’ve talked about before. for example, at the beginning of this post i said, “happy monday!” even though i hate people who say, “happy monday!” because it helps get me into the mindset that even though the weekend is over … it’s all good. it’s a new week and a new chance for great things to happen.
apply this to just about anything … when you wake up on a monday and all you want to do is sleep … when you just got dumped by the guy you’ve been seeing for a few months via email [true story right there] and your friends are trying to drag you out to the bar, but you would rather stay in, cry and eat ice cream … when you put on that dress for the big event you’ve been waiting for and it’s a little tighter than it was when you bought it … put on your effing lip gloss and pretend to be psyched. nine times out of ten, putting your best foot forward will make you forget about whatever it was that was bugging you and had you in a funk in the first place [at least for the time being].
fake it till you make, right?

motivation mondays: week 47
i can’t believe it’s already monday again…the past few weekends have gone by wayyyyy too quickly. there just aren’t enough hours in the day, days in the week, etc. for everything i want to do … i’m beginning to establish a routine to try to solve this dilemma, and it’s slowly coming along … but i’ll talk more about this in a blog post later! let’s talk motivation mondays!
to me, this is a reminder to not force anything, to let whatever happens … happen. often, when we’re trying to force something, we’re going against the “plan” that the universe has in place for us, and there is no need to struggle, especially if we keep in mind that everything will be okay in the long run. be open to new opportunities, people and ideas. if life takes an unexpected turn, ride it out. if people come into your life unexpectedly, welcome them. if things don’t work out how you thought they would, accept it. deal with the upset, the pain, the heartbreak however you need to, but then leave it behind you. go with the flow. sometimes the best things in life are the things we least expected.

motivation mondays: week 46
sorry i’m a little late getting this post live today … my mom was visiting me in sunny los angeles this weekend and helping get me a little more settled here … we covered a lot of ground, ate some great food, drank some drinks and did some shopping … i even signed a lease on a shiny new car, which is seriously a game changer. still working on getting some furniture for my apartment, but seriously, baby steps.
so, here we go! motivation mondays! i saw this on pinterest [where i get all of my motivation mondays inspiration, let’s be honest here] and i loved it because it’s so freakin’ true and something i really had never thought of looking at this way before.
sometimes i think we can get hung up on what we want to do and can become so focused on doing it [not that this is a bad thing] that we miss other opportunities. we put all of our time and energy into something, and if it doesn’t work for us, we get upset and beat ourselves up and get into the “what am i doing wrong?” mindset. we rarely consider that some things just aren’t going to work for us because they aren’t supposed to.
it can be hard to come to terms with this because when we want something so badly we can’t imagine what will happen if it doesn’t work out. sometimes, as hard as it might be, you need to come to terms with the fact that maybe you’re pushing for something that isn’t right for you and start exploring new options, at the very least knowing that you tried and gave it your all.
often it’s not us, it’s the way we’re doing something or where we think we’re headed that’s the problem. and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. time will tell you where you should go, and i’m a big believer that everything works out in the long run. patience and persistence pay off, but so does flexibility and openminded-ness.

motivation mondays: week 45
okay gang! it’s been a while, and i really appreciate you all hangin’ in there with me during my mini-hiatus … it’s been a process getting settled over here in sunny california, which has messed up my routine in many, many more ways than one, but this week, i’m back and i can promise that you’ll see posts going up as per the regular schedule (monday, wednesday and friday).
before we get to this week’s quote, let’s pause to talk about the fig and goat cheese ice cream with pecan crumble i had last night:
yep. that happened. sweet rose creamery at the brentwood country market makes fresh ice cream daily and they have some of the most unique flavors, including this one, that i’ve ever seen for ice cream. yea, you should go. not even a question.
this week for motivation mondays, i want to talk about the importance of your attitude when dealing with juuussstttt about anything:
your attitude can impact a whole lot more than you probably realize. worrying, thinking negatively, or not believing in yourself can be really detrimental to the outcome of any given situation. if you think you can’t do something, i promise you, you can’t. believing that you’re capable of achieving something you’ve never done before is more than half the battle.
i mean … let’s think about it … if you don’t think you can, who else is going to? probably no one. whatever you focus on, whatever you think is going to happen, you give power to.
so, you should start trying to be positive. believe in yourself. even if it’s only for one millisecond every day, it’s better than never believing in yourself. attitude has a greater impact than we’ll probably ever realize, but we can start using the power of our minds in a positive way almost immediately, because it’s something that we actually do have control over, unlike so many of the other variables playing into our lives.
