motivation mondays: week 17
last week’s motivation mondays post was special because it was the last one of 2014, so i guess that since today’s motivation mondays is the first of 2015, it’s also a little special!
i hope that everyone had a refreshing and relaxing weekend and is ready to take on 2015 and all that is ahead of you with renewed motivation and confidence. i took the weekend to really lay low and recover from the holiday season before jumping back into reality today. i hit the gym, but other than that, most of my time was spent snuggled up in my bed drinking tea and binging on netflix… because it’s all about balance remember?!
i also spent a lot of time reflecting on 2014 and picturing where i want 2015 to take me. i have a few resolutions, a couple major goals and an overall vision of where i want to be and how i want to feel. i’m using this year to continue pushing myself in as many ways as possible to keep working towards where i eventually want my life to be. i thought that this quote was perfect for the first motivation mondays of the new year!
there are so many things that i want to do, want to see, want to experience, want to accomplish in my personal life and my professional life. i have bucket lists for days and lists upon lists of places i want to go and an overall vision for what i want my life to look like one day. i have never been the type of person to put work before my personal life because i just don’t think it’s worth it. i know a lot of people who do this and it’s really frustrating to see. i feel like so many of us are missing out on what life is really about and not allowing ourselves to experience it to the fullest, all in the name of a career and money.
with that being said, i do have a “dream job” in mind that i would eventually like to have and this blog was my first major step towards that. while i’m not there yet and definitely have a lot of work to do, i’m making an effort to allow the space to inspire me to keep working and make that gap smaller instead of allowing it to freak me out and discourage me from trying [as it had in the past]. i’m no longer going to be my own worst enemy and biggest critic when it comes to this stuff. i’m gonna go for it and see what happens.
since it’s the start of a new year, writing down my goals and coming up with a game plan has been a great starting point for all of the ideas i have for the “next step”. tackling one thing at a time is totally reasonable and baby steps make it seem way less scary. So, i challenge you to do the same! regardless of where you are, where you want to be and how different those two things might look, just remember that taking the first step is the hardest part. don’t get discouraged, don’t doubt yourself and most importantly, don’t be scared! allow the journey and all of the possibilities to inspire you to start moving in the direction you want to go.
here are a few inspiring things to start your first week of 2015 with:
i discovered this facebook event last night and I’m so obsessed with it. a little boy who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia absolutely loves dogs [a kid after my own heart], so a family friend of his started this event where people from all over the world can post pictures of their dogs for him to see while he is in the hospital. [i also spent about 20 minutes scrolling through the pictures on the event myself, because… well… there’s no such thing as too many puppy pictures.]
this animation of what your bones look like during yoga is pretty cool… I’m starting yoga teacher training on saturday [more on this later!] and stuff like this is getting me even more excited!
and last but not least: one direction and danny devito. i don’t know how/why this happened, but i’m definitely not mad about it.
what are your goals for 2015? what are you doing to make sure fear doesn’t hold you back? would love to hear from you in the comments below or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
and don’t forget! now through january 31st i’m offering a free month of health coaching to anyone who signs up for my 6-month program by january 31st. email me at email@example.com with any questions and to schedule your free initial consultation. can’t wait to hear from you!

avocado baked eggs
happy 2015! i hope everyone had a fun, safe and healthy[ish] new years and the best start to 2015 that you could have asked for! so that you can have a healthy start, i wanted to share with you a quick, easy and healthy recipe for your first weekend of 2015. while i’m totally all about being lazy and taking it easy this weekend, you still need to keep balance in mind, especially if any of your resolutions involve getting healthy or losing those last few pesky pounds you put on over the holidays!
on christmas morning, my family always enjoys a quick, simple breakfast together before tearing into our gifts. this year was no exception, but instead of my mom doing all of the work, i decided to pitch in an put my own bananas + bellinis spin on things. we had a bunch of fresh farm-raised eggs from the farmer down the road [yep, those things are accessible to me back home] and some avocados, so i decided to give eggs baked inside of avocados a try and if i do say so myself, they weren’t bad at all! they’re also good for you [protein + healthy fats] and who doesn’t love avocados?!
for four servings of these avocado baked eggs you will need:
- 4 eggs
- 2 avocados
- salt + pepper to taste
- any toppings, spices condiments you like [i used sriracha]
- preheat oven to 425º. line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and grease very lightly with coconut oil.
- cut the avocados in half lengthwise, remove pits and scoop out the centers, leaving about 1/4″ of avocado meat around the edges and line up on the cookie sheet.
- carefully crack the eggs into the avocados, sprinkle with salt and pepper and place in the oven for 15-20 minutes [you can adjust this based on how well you like your eggs done… i baked mine for about 18 minutes].
- remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving and topping with your favorite seasonings.
- throw some english muffins in the toaster to serve on the side and enjoy!
